For most farmers in Nellore, the relationship with a buyer starts and ends at one moment: the day the paddy is ready and someone shows up to purchase it. Everything that happens before that — the planning, the planting, the months of tending a crop through weather, pests and uncertain cash flow — happens alone.
Manuma Siddhi is changing that. We are building a farmer-partnership model that extends our relationship with farmers across the whole crop cycle, not just the transaction at the end of it. This post explains what that means in practice, why we are doing it, and what it looks like season by season.
The Problem With “Buyer at Harvest Only”
Farming needs money before it makes money. Seed, fertilizer, labor, irrigation and everyday costs all come due long before there is a crop to sell. For a lot of farmers, that gap between spending and earning gets bridged in ways that quietly cost them:
- Taking on informal credit at high, unclear rates
- Selling early or in a rush, at whatever price is available, just to cover costs
- Cutting corners on inputs because the cash is not there when it is needed
None of that is a failure on the farmer’s part — it is a structural gap in how the relationship between farmer and buyer is usually set up. A buyer who only appears at harvest has no reason to care what happened in the months before, even though those months determine the size and quality of the crop that eventually gets sold.
We think that is the wrong place to draw the line.
What “Partnership” Actually Means Here
A farmer-partnership model means Manuma Siddhi’s relationship with a farmer starts before planting and continues through to payment — one connected relationship instead of a series of one-off transactions. In practice, that looks like six stages:
1. Plan. Before a single seed goes in the ground, we talk with farmers about the crop and variety, expected acreage, planting schedule and harvest timeline. Support that is arranged in advance is support that actually arrives on time — figuring things out after a problem has already happened is too late to help.
2. Plant. Depending on the farmer and the arrangement, we help coordinate access to seeds, fertilizer and other approved farming requirements at the point where they are actually needed, not after.
3. Grow. The relationship does not go quiet after planting. We stay in touch through the season and help coordinate whatever comes up along the way, rather than disappearing until harvest.
4. Harvest. When the crop is ready, we coordinate labor, transport, collection, weighing and quality assessment, so there is as little delay as possible between the field and the buyer.
5. Sell. This is where our existing paddy procurement work fits in — direct purchase from the farmer, connected to rice mills and industrial buyers, without unnecessary middlemen in between.
6. Get paid. Farm to collection to quality check to weighing to payment — the same transparent process behind our procurement work today, now sitting at the end of a longer relationship rather than being the entire relationship.

And the Financial Support Piece
We know the question that matters most to a lot of farmers is the money question — not just “will you buy my paddy” but “can you help me get through the season in the first place.”
We are building that in. Manuma Siddhi can provide financial and input support for approved farming requirements during the crop cycle, subject to eligibility and mutually agreed terms with each farmer. We are being deliberately careful with that wording rather than promising something specific and unconditional, because a real financial arrangement needs real terms attached to it, worked out with each farmer based on their situation. What we can say clearly is this: the intent is to help close the gap between what a season costs and when a harvest pays, not to add another layer of pressure on top of it.
Why We Are Doing This
A one-time buyer has no stake in whether a farmer has a good season. A partner does. Farmers who get support through the season, not just a fair price at the end of it, are farmers who can plant with confidence, manage the season without a cash crunch, and bring in a better crop. That is good for the farmer, and it is good for us: a stronger, more reliable supply of paddy, and a relationship that lasts season after season instead of starting from scratch every harvest.
This is not a one-off program or a marketing campaign — it is a shift in how we think about the business. Manuma Siddhi already handles procurement, logistics, warehousing and manpower. A farmer-partnership model connects all of that into a single relationship that starts earlier and lasts longer.
Who This Is For
This is for farmers in and around SPSR Nellore who want more than a once-a-year transaction — farmers who have had to sell early or cheap in the past just to cover costs, and farmers who are already selling to Manuma Siddhi or considering it and want a partner rather than just a buyer.
